passage (2016)
is a sound sculpture with video. 36 aluminum discs tuned in just intonation sit atop tubular resonators. They are actuated robotically with solenoids controlled by Max and a teensy microcontroller. Video lights the discs and draws pathways that connect from one note to the next. The music is generative, with occasional historical references.
The work, for me, is about transitions, moving from one place to another across the various stations of life.
Created for the Portland Biennial, 2016. Curated by Michelle Grabner.
