With texts drawn from Jorge Luis Borges and those created and curated by the performers, Subterranean is a technological exploration of isolation, uncertainty, and the hope for connection. Composed in the context of the early period of COVID-19 lockdowns, it was devised as a collaborative performance work that can be realized with performers situated across the globe. It makes use of generative 3D animations, a flexible score rooted in improvisation, and electronic sound. Commissioned by Aiyun Huang and the University of Toronto Percussion Studio.
